Expo!

I don’t know how I managed to not mention this – We’re holding the First Annual Grand Cities Holistic Healing Expo this weekend! I have been busy working for the past few days creating some Runic lovelies to put out on the shelves. I thought I’d share:

This set is easily one of my favorites I’ve ever made. Picture Jasper is a lovely earthy stone that fosters creative vision and helps the conscious mind understand and work with the unconscious.

I adore blue lace agate – it’s a gentle stone that helps one reach out to angelic realms and assists inner attunement and communication. Also it can work wonders on arthritis

This is such a tough one to photograph! Rose Quartz is a stone of the heart – it fosters unconditional love and helps one get in touch with their emotions in a gentle way.

My Very Own Etsy

My Etsy shop is now up and ready to go!

Aside from the lip balms (which are out in my local metaphysical shop as well) I’m also working on facial scrubs, moisturizers, lotions, and body butters.   I’m always looking for new things to make and try!

At the moment, I have some lip balms up, along with two super fun facial scrubs: a coffee-spice scrub and a floral sugar scrub. I’ve tested them both and I love ’em.

AstralRose Creations

I’ve been experimenting with homemade lip balms for a little while, and now I’ve taken the first big step towards really making something of this: I’ve put about 50 of my lip balms on consignment at my local new age shop (because they love hand-made things).

I was even working when the first one sold!

This is so fulfilling, but it’s something I’ve never considered really making anything of – but I’m starting to think that perhaps I can. I adore natural “beauty products” that are good for me and good for the earth. When I say “beauty products” I really mean products that make me feel beautiful not products that make me beautiful – because I already am. The same holds true of everyone else who uses my products. The point is to nourish yourself, love yourself, and realize that you are beautiful and amazing as is.

Rune Workshop!

So, today was the big day – my Rune workshop at my local New Age store! Everything went well, aside from the fact that my cold has left me with next to no voice. So we skipped the guided meditation, but instead talked and did a little interpreting.

As we painted each symbol, we discussed the meaning and a various interpretations. I think it made for a very powerful set of Runes. I can’t wait to really use them. It was pretty simple, I got some glass marbles (the flat-ish ones you use for decorating) and paint pens – it’s a very user friendly way to make a beginning set.  I’ll have a picture soon.

I have to say I was nervous – mostly because I knew a few folks in the class were somewhat familiar with the Runes (we even had a Heathen with us today) and I was worried I’d be covering things they already knew. I think everyone came out the class having learned something new, even me.

All in all – a good time. I can’t wait to do it again!

Prepairing for Workshop

This month, on the 29th, I’ll be leading a Rune Workshop at my local New Age shop. This is really exciting, but also the first time I’ll be teaching people about something. We’ll also be making a simple set of Runes that they can take home and use. If you ask me, it’s a pretty good deal.

Anyway, here’s the general of what I’ll be talking about:

My hand made clay Runes (not in order)

What are the Runes? – This will be a pretty short segment on the history of the Runes and of runes in general.

Odin and the Runes – This section of the workshop will be about the connection between the Runes and Odin, who in Norse mythology found and shared the Runes with humanity. This is just to give a little background for those who’ve never looked into the Runes

The Setup and Meanings of the Runes – This is where we will be creating the take home runestones. I will talk a little about the aettir, or rune rows then move on to the individual runes. As I read through each rune, we’ll create that runestone together. I have a feeling this will create a really powerful set!

How Can We Use the Runes? – A brief overview of different ways to use the Runes, including divination. I think introducing people to other uses, such as bindrunes and galdr, would be nice for those who have no experience so they don’t feel like they have no other use.

And at the end, I’ll offer a Q&A session and go over some recommendations for books, websites and Youtube channels. I’m seriously looking forward to this! I’ll be taking pictures too, and maybe make a tutorial on making a simple Rune set. Who knows?

More Crows

I’ve seen about five more crows since my last post about Crow. I’ve been so busy with school and work the past few days that I haven’t had a chance to journey to see Crow – but I’m planning on it today. So to tide my curiosity and give me a general idea, I made an impromptu pendulum board with different aspects of Crow written in the sections.

So, there’s the gist of how I made it, but I’d like to go a little more in-depth about the aspects that I used. Oh, and before we begin, I use “Crow” and “Raven” interchangeably, because, scientifically speaking, they are from the same genus (Corvus).

Intelligence: As far as birds go, Crows are incredibly intelligent. Some species actually make tools to use in looking for food or utilize the tools of humans to do their work for them.

Oracle: Crows can be trained to speak (not unlike a parrot) – this imitated human voice lends itself well to legends about Crow being an amazing oracle.Furthermore, think of the ‘kraws‘ sound that Crow sometimes makes – to me it sounds a lot like the Latin ‘cras‘ which means ‘tomorrow’.

Secrets: Crows can be very deceptive in their actions – keeping their true motives and actions hidden. They are seen in many mythologies as keepers of secrets.

Wisdom: Many ancient mythos associate Crow with wisdom (and prophecy, but I’ve talked about that) through the gods that are associated with Crow, such as: Odin, Bran, Cailleach, and Morrigan.

Odin the Allfather with his wolves (Geri and Freki) and Huginn and Muninn

Thought/Memory: Odin is said to have been attended by two Ravens – Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory). They would fly all over the world everyday and later tell Odin of everything they had seen. These two concepts are so connected that I could not separate them.

Bringer of Light: In Haida myth, Raven steals the sun (amongst other things) from Grey Eagle, who horded the sun, moon, stars, fresh water, and fire from humanity because he so despised them. Oddly enough, in the beginning of this myth (and others) Raven is a white bird, whose feathers are burnt by flame or the sun.

Creation: The black color of Crow is associated with the void of creation – the primordial womb from which all life springs. Some Native American myths speak of Raven as having created the world.

Change: Crow is known as a shape-shifter in many cultures. Also, Crow’s assocation with death and the transition from life to death connects to change on a great scale.

P.S. I turned on Bones tonight, and they were talking about the American Crow. Like I said in my video, everywhere!
